Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: This final diploma thesis is concerned with a wood preservation concept for four wooden joist ceilings in the Eschmar Mill near Troisdorf. It begins with an historical overview of the mill site and the listed brick building before going on to discuss the preliminary concept for its reuse. This concept envisages using the existing rooms as working and living rooms. The wooden joist ceilings documenting the former operating and processing processes are to be preserved as an information source. The control measures and preventive measures for wood preservation necessitated by the active insect attack must allow the spaces to be used as day rooms. The wood preservation concept is based on DIN standard 68800 “Holzschutz im Hochbau”. In addition to the damage areas and the causes of the damage, possibilities of combating wood-destroying fungus and insects, as well as preventive measures against micro-organism attack, will be presented.
