Cleaning with cleaning dough “Gomma pane”.

Cleaning with “Wishab” sponge.
Abstract: This paper deals with the investigation of the cleaning dough “Gomma pane” and it compares the dough with different types of “Wishab” sponges. The issue is whether the use of these cleaning materials has an influence on the physical properties of the plaster. The wetting angle of the surface, the water vapour diffusion and optical properties after cleaning are tested. Furthermore, the issue whether micro-organisms can use this cleaning materials is examined. In addition, mural paintings from four Swedish churches, which have been cleaned with “Gomma pane” within the last 20 years, are investigated. The main reason is to see whether cleaning with dough increases the growth of micro-organisms and to see how much dough residues are left on the surface.
