Abstract: The main objective of this dissertation was the development of a conservation programme for the baroque wall painting by Johann Anwander, in the garden pavillon (“Mang’schen Wachsbleiche”), in Bamberg. The history and significance of the site are described; followed by an examination of the original technigue and present condition of the painting, and an assessment of the causes of deterioration. Potential conservation treatments were developed and in situ tests were undertaken. Recommendations for further necessary technical investigations and conservation proposals are made.
