Overview:

Abstract: The middle room of the transverse house at Rochlitz Castle holds a painted wood-truss ceiling of the fourteenth century with contemporary paintings and 100 years older, ogive shaped, red door-portals. In the sixteenth century, many different types of Renaissance paintings were added. Those paintings are predominantly conserved in the wall areas in countless bits and pieces.
The question that comes up for the future use of the room is, which paintings are presentable The painted ceiling is very early evidence of manorial living standards in Saxony, but endangered due to static problems. The later wallpaintings are experiencing a loss of substance and are difficult to uncover. This essay will discuss several proposals for a solution to conserve the valuable ceiling and to present the gothic paintings without losing the Renaissance paintings.
