Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The presented bachelor thesis deals with the preservation of the photographs from Elisabeth Hofacker’s memory album. The whereabouts and how it ended up in the Jewish Museum´s inventory is explained. Hofacker´s life story consists of 156 sheets, which were mostly typewritten, and contain 15 photographs taken between 1933 and 1945. 14 photographs are mounted with self-adhesive tape on the photo layer while another one is unfixed. It is described to which extent the photographs have already been damaged by the tape. The photographs are to be reassembled, for which purpose a concept for reassembly is drawn up, taking into account the material properties and assembly requirements. This is carried out on test objects. Aesthetics, impact behavior and possible risks of damage to the photographs are analyzed. Other memory albums from the Jewish Museum are used and their assembly variants are examined and compared with those of a classic photo album.
