The subject of the diploma thesis is the lined canvas painting „View of the Grand Canal“ with a focus on the art-technological examination. The special feature is the painting of an older piece of a painting. In addition, the Venetian veduta painting of the 18th century is considered. Original, copied and imitation views of the Grand Canal by Canaletto, the workshop and unknown painters are brought together. The painting is compared and classified with these versions in terms of style and painting technique. Consolidation of the image layer and removal of the varnish formed the focus of the conservation and restoration of the object.
