Anne Hering: Thermische Herstellung von Ergänzungen aus Paraloid B72 am Beispiel frühneuzeitlicher Glasfunde vom Wittenberger Arsenalplatz Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The work deals with the production of loss compensation from melted Paraloid B72, a polyethylmethacrylate, for glass objects. Compared to the usual casting in dissolved solution, melting offers great advantages such as massive time savings and immediate dimensional stability. This new technique captivates through the combination of the advantages mentioned with the good material properties of Paraloid B72 (reversibility, ageing resistance, transparency). In addition to a section on the scientific background and cultural history, the work in hand includes investigations on melting temperature, ageing resistance, mechanical resilience as well as occupational health and fire safety and a handson work section with a best practice report. Exemplarily, six vessels from the early modern
glass complex from the disposal site at the Arsenalplatz in Wittenberg were restored and their gaps been filled.
