Overview:

Abstract: This research paper deals with the development of a concept for the stabilizing conservation of an early modern binding of the Dombibliothek Hildesheim.
The binding is a wooden cover with alaunge tanned leather. It has mechanical damage at the joints and spine, as well as a rectangular cutout on the front cover. The leather is detached in places on the covers.
In addition, on the inside of the front cover is a handwriting on parchment as a part of the endpaper and connection to the spine, which is particularly vulnerable to damage due to protruding fragments and therefore requires special care.
The materials used and the methodology of material stabilization are based on those already tested and used in the master´s thesis "Entwicklung eines Konzepts für die stabilisierende Konservierung alaungegerbter mittelalterlicher Ledereinbände der Dombibliothek Hildesheim" by Juliane Girndt formerly Graf.
