Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The south portal, built of Aflenzer Stein with a polychrome madonna sculpture, is one of a series of Styrian portals of the late Gothic period that are unique in Austria. It shows the entire variety of forms of the Late Gothic period, which spread throughout Central Europe due to the productive, international building industry. In this diploma-thesis the materials, the manufacturing as well as the condition of the portal will be examined in order to develop a goal and a concept for the conservation. The main focus lies on the serious loss of surface of the vestments. The concept is finally carried out on representative sample areas, which will serve as a basis for discussion for the conservation of the entire portal.
