Overview:

Abstract: The art technological examination of the three small 19th Century paintings “Brandung”, “Brandstätte” and “Alter Harfner”, from the Saatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden, is the focus of this diploma thesis. Specific technological results are compared and interpreted based on existing research, such as the double ground of two paintings, “Alter Harfner” with the painting technique of C. G. Carus and two paintings with the descriptions of oil sketches and open-air paintings.
On “Brandung”, alterations such as overpaint, varnish and retouches are removed.
