Overview:

Abstract: The five balcony access houses in Dessau-Törten were built in the years 1929/1930 as the first project of the building department of the Bauhaus Dessau. Under the leadership of Hannes Meyer 90 apartments of 47 m2 each were completed by students for workers and low-income employees. With this thesis various architectural surfaces and original materials of the supporting surfaces in the interior and exterior are being phenomenologically recorded and analyzed in their structural composition. A characterization of the materials and the design concept of the time of origin of the Laubenganghäuser are being presented. Furthermore, the thesis contains a survey and an evaluation of the buildings’ present condition as well as a recommendation for prospective measures
