Overview:

Abstract: The present master thesis is concerned with the preservation and possible restoration of a sculptural work of art, a facade dated into the 18th century with monochrome fragments. This object can probably be assigned to the architectural sculptures Abbot of Hardehausen. The staircase, which was added to the facade at a later date, is not part of the work, but is still additionally listed and placed in relation to the sculpture.
The reason for the conservation and restoration of the sculpture is the client’s desire to restore the original spiritual significance of the sculptures. For this purpose, two possible concepts for the presentation have been developed as part of the thesis, in addition to the damage inventory and the concept of measures. The question of the original architectural context of the sculpture and its association formed a further focus of the work, in addition to examining the paint layers with the objective of detecting a relative layer-sequence.
Following the completion of the Master-Thesis, the conservation of the sculpture and the facade is envisaged.
