Overview:

Abstract: The impetus for this thesis was provided by the signature of the 'painter-restorer' Rudolf Puppe, who immortalised himself on several portraits belonging to the castle museum at Arnstadt. The paintings were originally made in the first half of the 18th century and reworked and altered in 1934.
The aim of this work is to discuss and create a concept for an option to remove the old conservation measures, exemplified at four female portraits.
Through microscopic analysis, x-ray and infrared photography, good results could be gained, which gave new insights and food for thoughts relating to new ways of dealing with ethic principles and creating concepts.
Finally, for every painting an individual restoration concept was created.
