Overview:

Abstract: The present thesis deals with the application of monitoring as a measure of preventive conservation, its requirements for a successful performance and its advantages in the field of conservation and restoration.
The windows of the Evangelische Lukaskirche in Langenfeld (Richrath, Germany) are used as an example to put the theoretically developed aspects into practice. These windows were made in the early 1970s, executed in gluing techniques by the artist Henk Schilling. The artist used different kinds of glass and epoxy resins in various ways for the design. Because of its state of preservation, monitoring seems to be an adequate method for the preventive conservation for this piece of art.
The main subject was to develop a concept and to provide a basis for its realisation.
