| Abstract: | This Master thesis is concerned with the reconstruction, restoration and presentation of fragmentarily preserved sandstone sculptures. The subject of this thesis is the fragments of grave slabs and epitaphs from the Barfüßerkirche in Erfurt, made during the Gothic and Renaissance period. They are part of the church’s inventory and therefore belong to the collection of the Anger Museum in Erfurt. The survey of the inventory and its condition serves as a basis for the development of the concept of measures concerning an effective conservation and restoration treatment. In the course of this survey, the results were documented in written form as well as with photographs and drawings. Based on the analysis of causes, extent and degree of the damage, the criteria for a uniform methodological approach of the necessary measures were formulated in the methodological considerations. With regard to the intended presentation, the discussion and development of the extent of the reconstruction form the main aspect of this thesis. The possibilities and limitations of an approximation towards the original aesthetic and the dimension of the grave slabs are illustrated. The graphic visualizations of the extent of the reconstruction support the discussion and demonstrate the importance of digital image-processing in the field of restoration. The developed concept of measures can be applied to the whole inventory. |
