Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: This bachelor thesis is about the specific raw material and the current condition of the Uyghur newspapers (1937 – 1972) from the stock of the Göttingen State and University Library, to figure out if they can be deacidified. Therefore the fragile condition of the newspapers and examined the fragments were described. Microscope pictures up to 200x magnification show fibres of straw, cotton, hemp, and kenaf. The average pH of the fragments is at 4,22. The test of lignin was positive. The test of alum was problematic but reinforced the assumption, that alum was used for the sizing of the paper. The pH, the number of wood fibres and the alum encourage the deterioration of paper, which could get stopped by the deacidification.
