Overview:

Abstract: The high altar in the sanctuary of the parish church St. Valentine and Dionysius in Kiedrich/ Rhg
was built by Johann Friess in 1613. Two of the components feature disproportionately heavy
damages by impact of material disintegration concerning a freestone‐embedded bas‐relief made
of alabaster and a pillar cut from marble of the Lahn area. The verification’s object has been the
detection of the damage cause and the preparation of a method concept for the conservation
and restoration of both structural elements.
It was asserted, that the damage cause are based on structural problems and have partially risen
from constructive defects. Furthermore, methods to disencumber the components and structural
strengthening were compiled.
