Overview:

Abstract: As the last surviving relic of a former winged altarpiece, the late Gothic panel painting fragment from
the evangelist Lutheran village church of Lauterbach next to Neukirchen an der Pleisse / Saxony
illustrates the long history of this ancient church district. Through various examination and
documentation methods, like cross‐sections, UV‐fluorescence and IR‐reflectography, this work deals
with the stock and condition of the panel, especially of the almost fully preserved festive side, in
contrary to the all‐day side. Given the picture of the Anne trinitaire, which is cut in half, and the
numerous over paintings, the object is dated so far in comparison to other altarpieces around 1500
and assigned to a workshop located in the area between Altenburg and Zwickau. Later reworking on
the panel and damaging processes, caused by the painting technique, consequently impair the
readability of the original message. Therefore, the handling of the object has to correspond to an
aesthetic unity. This bachelor‐work intends to lay the foundation for the upcoming conservation and
restoration; whereas thoughts for the necessary following treatments have been already included.
