Overview:

Abstract: This thesis discusses mural paintings from the Middle Ages and modern times.
The paintings are located in the apse of the "Jakobikirche" (Church of St. Jacob) in Wilsdruff,
Saxony.
A documentation from 1985 serves as a basis for this thesis. Many of the results that were reached
then have not lost validity over time. Nonetheless, I could add numerous findings to the status
analysis and uncover new mechanisms of damage. Furthermore, I documented changes of the
condition that took place during the last 25 years. I revised the conception of 1985, especially
focusing on the materials used.
The emphasis of the conservation and restoration of 1985 was on the phase of the first layer from
the Middle Ages. This thesis focuses especially on the phase of the third layer and the following
design phases of modern times.
