Overview:

Abstract: The massive wooden coffin originated from the burial mound near Helmsdorf is a unique
testimony of the craftsmanship in the early Bronze Age in central Europe. This diploma thesis
deals with the technological consideration related to the coffin`s edification on the basis of
preserved ghost lines. The aforementioned object was excavated and conserved at the
beginning of the 20th century. Today it is available as dried archaeological wood with specific
damages. The condition of the coffin and its ancient restorations will be evaluated and its
results will provide a basis for the compilation of the conception for a new conservation.
