Overview:

Abstract: The Egyptian collection of the University of Leipzig is in the possession of an illusionistic door relief,
which was destroyed in 1945.The fragments are part of the grave of Seschemnofer II. in Gizeh/Egypt.
Seschemnofer II. worked as a Civil Servant during the 5th dynasty, the fragments therefore dating
from 2450 – 2290 B. C. The door was made of very fine‐grained soft limestone, today showing
different forms of destruction.
The door was consolidated, using largely reversible materials. The choice of an appropriate adhesive
for the limestone fragments was guided by previous tests. On the basis of discussions concerning
the extent of completion and reconstruction, a concept was developed and a sample was made.
