Language: Original   -   Translation
Abstract: The diploma thesis documents the investigation of a painted winged altarpiece from 1474. The work is attributed to “Master A.E.“ and shows a Calvary on the open view and on the backs of the wings the life of St. Paul. The investigation focused on the changes caused by previous restorations, which strongly affected the appearance of the altarpiece. The closed view shows extensive damage caused by considerable interventions and strong aging of the paint layer. A concept was created to take back or to integrate a large part of the previous measures, in order to rectify the damage caused. In the theoretic work, suggestions were developed for a new framing and for the presentation of the altarpiece.
