Overview:

Abstract: The paper deals with the triumphal cross of the St. Georgenkirche in Rötha. The paper contains the examination of its technology, state of preservation and a treatment proposal. A treatment report including photographs was carried out. The crucifix showed severe damages based on insect attack and climatic exposure. The damage was effected by a 90 per cent loss of polychromy, loose or lost components and dirt. Possibilities of conservation, restoration and presentation of monumental wooden triumphal crosses with loss of polychromy were discussed and presented in case studies.
