Abstract: This Thesis is dealing with the unique cycle of six large sized paintings, by Sigmar Polke, which he produced
for the 42th Biennale di Venezia in 1986. Today the paintings are presented in Museum Abteiberg,
Mönchengladbach. During the project, Polkes choice of material and technique were examined. The main
topic of the thesis is to develop a concept for the cleaning of the sensitive surfaces. Special attention is
given to the Teknek DCR-Cleaningcores. Further on a concept for backing protection and protection against
visible light and photo ultraviolet radiation is proposed.
