Overview:

Abstract: The current paper outlines the treatment of a Flemish panel painting from the middle of the 16th century in
possession of the Museum Schloss Wilhelmshöhe. The treatment focused on the structural stabilisation of
the wooden support and the new framing of the panel painting. A custom-designed clamp system was built
for the rejoining of the opened panel plank, using a filled adhesive. Furthermore the reconstruction and
execution of a new picture frame based on historical models will be discussed. The framing system
comprises a spring mechanism, with the result that the pressure of the auxiliary support can be individually
adjusted.
