Theresa Charlotte Fritzen: A historicist leather wall hanging in the „Villa Hügel“ in Essen – Research, documentation, conservation Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: This work is about a gilt leather wall hanging of the 2nd floor in the „Villa Hügel“ in Essen, which was built in
1873 to be the main residence of the Krupp family. Like other historicist leather wall hangings, it’s poorly
understood. This is why this work starts with research on the production of leather wall hangings around
1900 und on the historical background. The aim is to get a better idea of the “renaissance of the leather wall
hanging”. At the same time research is done on the production and the materials on the object itself. A
concept for the conservation will be formulated after describing the condition of the space bound wall
hanging and the climate and light situation. The concept will be translated in a sample restoration.
