Overview:

Abstract: The present thesis comprises the creation of a concept for conservation and restoration of an oil painting on textile image carrier by the artist Waltraute Macke-Brüggemann (1913-2006) of the Roemer- und Pelizaeus-Museum Hildesheim. The concept also includes the corresponding frame.
Emphasis of this study is the treatment of the problematical pictorial layer which lifted from the image carrier to a greater or lesser extent in some areas. Based on tests there will be developed some safeguarding and cleaning measures for the dull and thin pictorial layer which is partially grounding sighted. Relating to the pictorial layer of the painting the cellulose ether Methocel A4C turns out to be suitable.
Moreover there will be some more, particularly conserving measures recommended to be able to warrant the holistic preservation of the painting with frame.
