Abstract:	The theoretical part of this thesis describes the examination of late 18th-century wax sculptures emphasises their original exhibition context in the collection of Anatomical Wax Models in the Josephinum in Vienna (Medical Museum). Condition of the numerous objects in the collection has been checked and was compared to objects at the museum „La Specola“ in Florence. Two selected wax models were scientifically examined (UV, X-ray, polarised-light-microscopy, SEM, FTIR, PY-GC-MS). The composition of the modelling wax, varnish, pigments as well as production techniques and degrading mechanisms were researched. Practical conservation problems consisted of breaks, missing pieces, dirt, missing textile parts and the restoration of one original model and showcase. Accordingly tests for adhesion, infilling and retouching on wax were carried out. The materials and methods examined have been used for conservation and restoration of the model VII/171/1 „Arteries of the Human Arm“. Top
