Overview:

Abstract: The historical display cases from 1889 in the Prehistoric Collection in the Natural History Museum of Vienna do not offer optimal safekeeping conditions for the exhibits.
However, it is not possible to exchange them because the building and all the objects inside are listed. A risk analysis dealing with climate, pests, lighting conditions, pollutants and mechanical strain is undertaken in order to evaluate the situation properly from a conservators view. The different demands of the material groups in the collection were also taken into consideration to improve the situation. Easy solutions to attempt a deacrease of the problems are suggested.
