Sophie Kurzmann: CRINKLED LEATHER BOOTS OF THE TEXTILE COLLECTION OF THE WIEN MUSEUM Condition Report - Conservation - Storage Concept Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: Objects made of crinkled wet-look leather are found in numerous collections. There has been scant scholarly research into the treatment of this deteriorated material. A preservation scientific inventory of the wet-look leather boots and a material determination by light microscopy, X-ray and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy is undertaken. In addition, various consolidant media on the damaged wet-look leather and the sole material are tested. The effect of the actions on the material is evaluated by cross-cut test (EN ISO 2409) and consolidation treatment is carried out based on literature survey and testing. Furthermore, a storage concept is developed which focuses on the effects of temperature, relative humidity, UV-radiation, oxygen and object inherent harmful gases on the damaged items and also ensures the protection of the other objects deposited in the collection.
