Viola Burkhardt: About the working methods of Grete Brabender (1896-1995), a sculpture restorer and conservator of Cologne Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: This master’s thesis describes the first time the characteristics of Grete Brabender’s (1896-1995) working methods in detail. It is based on the diploma thesis from 2010, which describes the impact of the sculpture restorer and conservator Brabender. In the centre stands the research and identification of her conservation and restoration work on a late Gothic crescent Madonna of the archbishopric Fine Arts Museum of Cologne, Kolumba. In this context the change of sculpture conservation in the 20th century in Germany, especially in the Cologne region, is described. The thesis sets a base for the research on sculpture conservation methods in the Rhein and Mosel region and for the specific working methods Brabender’s in this context.
