This bachelor thesis is about the fire-damaged leather bindings of the Herzogin Anna Amalia library in Weimar. It explains problems that are already caused of the manufacturing technology of the cover on the book.
Also the existing problems are described with regard to different factors caused by the fire and thereby caused damage is showed and explained.
Further the current state of materials research, based on tests and workshops as part of the ongoing management after fire at the HAAB is shown.
The main part of the text consists in the descriptions of various steps to restoration back to damaged leather bindings, based on repeatedly tested restoration processes which were developed in two workshops and are practiced in the library. It follows the visualization of one resulting from the test methodology which has to serve the best original maintenance and reusability of the objects, as desired by the HAAB.
