Overview:

Abstract: Technical studies were carried out on an ancient Egyptian mummy mask of the Ptolemaic period (ca. 300 – 100 B.C.) from Abusir el-Meleq, now in the collection of the Heinrich Schliemann Institute of Archaeology of the University of Rostock. The cartonnage mask is made of layers of weave linen, covered with white ground, painted and gilded. It was subject to extensive damage and conservation treatment in the past. Focus of this thesis is the technical examination of the mask, documentation of the state of preservation and previous conservation treatment as well as the development of a conservation treatment concept.
