Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The artifical stone sculpture was cast in Portland cement by the Mainz based sculptor Valentin Barth (1837 - 1920) in 1862. The Tritonsculpture was originally part of the former fountain at the Triton Square in Mainz and since 1971 it has been placed in the Mainz municipal park as a garden figure. The stability of the sculpture is e.g. substantially at risk, among other things this is due to distinctive separation cracks and fractures. As a cause of damage a thermal, moisture and static charge as well as the corrosion of the contained reinforcement and the former water containing lead pipe can be found. A concept for the conservation and future maintenance was developed on the basis of a detailed inventory and condition report.
