Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The Commodities Collection of the Technical Museum, Vienna contains a huge number of goods from different materials and stages of production. One 1906 pattern book from this collection is studied in terms of cultural history, technology and material science. The roller blind-swatches are a unique documentation of roller blind production around 1900. Due to its bad state of preservation the object requires comprehensive conservation and restoration in which cleaning the individual pages plays an important part. In a series of tests methods of dry as well as wet cleaning are tested and carried out. Textile pattern books are examined in terms of functional and formal differences and numerous collections are presented.
