Overview:
Abstract: The main focus of this thesis is an archaeological block recovery from the Saxon cemetery in Immenbeck near Buxtehude. The block is one element of an approx. 1500 year-old woman's grave and was rescued in 2003 by the department for preservation and care of monuments, Buxtehude. Up to its treatment, the block with the findingnumber 4068 was stored in Hannover at the regional authority office of Lower Saxony for care of monuments. Excavation report and X-ray photos promised rich and material-varied assemblages, and is therefore the reason why this block has been selected for this Bachelor's thesis and a running doctoral thesis.
After the opening and the step by step exposure a huge number of glass and amber beads were revealed, a gracile silver necklace, two extremely fragmented disc fibula, two bronze rings and a bow fibula. All pieces of jewellery, especially the impressive bead rows, still seemed to be in their in situ position. The impressive ensemble as a whole forms a striking example of the addition of Saxon women's graves. Unfortunately, the findings were in a deplorable state due to the unfavorable ground storage and dehydration in the depot. Even
more important was it to document, analyze, preserve and restore all findings. These measures are contents of the work and offer insights into different corrosion processes. They show means and ways of the damage limitation. The observations made henceforth lead to an interpretation and reconstruction of the finding connection. The restorer proceeds not only in the services of the object itself but also in the services of science
and thus goes on searching for traces.
