Abstract: The displaying of paintings has been a less important subject in the field of conservation/ restoration so far. Although especially this area is important when it comes to the prevention of damages to paintings.
Also is the constantly growing supply of modern hanging systems and techniques bringing up questions regarding the display. This Thesis deals with the history of displaying paintings, the criteria for an “ideal” way of hanging paintings, the practical application and examples of use of different ways to display paintings by hanging and the hanging methods and systems in the museum or elsewhere. The essential point of this Thesis is the functionality, compatibility and practicability of popular devices and systems for displaying paintings by hanging.
Therefor can this paper be understood as an incomplete but important market analysis.
