Ina Schnittker-Schulte: A North Dutch oak cupboard from 1607 belonging to the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam - comparative technical analysis of the type of furniture Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:
Abstract: The North Netherlands facade cupboard of 1607 describes a new type of furniture to the beginning of the 17th century in the Netherlands, based on its monumentality and a front that closes with two high doors. While no other furniture of this style has been noted before 1607, the technical analysis
should show how this innovation has changed with the construction and conversion of the cupboard.
The comparative analysis of selected, constructive notes on furniture from the collections of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and the Centraalmuseum Utrecht tie the findings into the historical context.
Based on the results a recommendation for handling and assembling will be given.
