Overview:

Abstract: The aim of this diploma thesis is the continuation of the object analysis and further development of the treatment method touched in a previous diploma thesis on a bureau mazarin in boulle-technique, presumably originated in France.
The analysis and documentation of the preservation status of the cabinet, together with a thorough construction analysis and exploration of the manufacturing process revealed complex causations for the observed damage of the object. Several restoration attempts, of which some have to be categorized as defective, were identified as a major source of damage. The construction type of the bureau mazarin was visualized in a technical drawing. Based on the results of the technical analysis a treatment plan was proposed. Regarding this plan, the outlined briefly. The conservation of the nearly intact gravures of the brass- and tortoishell marquetery, which are of exceptional good status for parade furniture these days, is the priority of the treatment measures explored in this diploma thesis.
