| Abstract: | A plan of conservation treatment was developed for the portal of the St. Jacobi church, Hamburg. The portal was displaced to the choir to the sacristy probably 1439. The concept is based on historical references and natural scientific research. In order to succeed in the research of the portal’s history and its environment written sources hint at the symptoms of deterioration had to be analysed. The composition and properties of the materials and the environmental conditions were inverstigated so that the mechanism of damages could be evaluated. Without changing the substance and thus distorting the history, soulutions in the sense of preventive converstion were found. The objective has been to reduce the and to shape an . |
