Overview:

Abstract: To draw up a treatment proposal for the conservation of a painted child’s sleigh of the 19th century the data and condition report as well as the objects significance and the exhibition environment in the open-air museum are reflected. Preserving the authenticity of the sleigh’s current appearance dominates the developed measures for the variety of materials. Emphasis is put on the now unstable wood construction, a waxed cloth printed with a traditional cane design (faux cane) and deteriorated leather borders. The upholstery with a japanned leather stripe, the plain wrought iron and the painted coatings are also considered. The measures are tested with dummies and test areas on the artefact. The treatment is to be carried out after the completion of this thesis.
