| Abstract: | This thesis focuses on the conservation and restoration of a chinese blue-and-white porcelain, specifically a double-gourd vase, from the so-called "room of shards" at Loosdorf Castle in Lower Austria. Thirty-nine preserved shards of the broken vase are being conserved, and their condition and composition are scientifically analyzed and documented. Furthermore, a concept for the making and mounting of detachable fills is developed, which are not glued but are meant to be inserted and removed like puzzle pieces. Using an internal construction and magnetic mounting, a method is proposed for implementing fully reversible and easily detachable fills on vases. |
