| Abstract: | This thesis examines surface treatment methods and protective coating systems applied to bronze monuments along Vienna’s Ringstrasse during conservation campaigns between 1955 and 2022. In addition, the current condition of selected monuments was assessed in 2025 to evaluate the effectiveness of past conservation measures. Particular attention is given to the discrepancy between theoretically recommended coating systems and their practical application, especially the former widespread use of microcrystalline wax on outdoor bronzes in Vienna. This approach is now critically reassessed. The study contributes to the documentation and evaluation of conservation practices for public bronze monuments and highlights the importance of long-term care, maintenance, and systematic monitoring |
