| Abstract: | This thesis deals with the inventory and condition assessment, as well as conservation measures for the wood substance of a late Gothic relief. It depicts the Coronation of Mary from around 1500 and belongs to the collection of the Universalmuseum Joanneum in Graz. The focus of the thesis is on the analysis of the three-dimensional image carrier, which has been severely damaged by wood-destroying insects and fungi. Ultrasonic transit time measurements are used to evaluate the condition of the wood substance and the success of the consolidation measures. This measurement method is mainly used in industrial materials testing in the construction industry and is being transferred to a new field of application in the course of this work. In the course of this work, it is demonstrated that this can be a suitable method for measuring the success of consolidation measures on severely damaged wood |
