| Abstract: | The subject of this thesis is the stacco a massello detached mural "Flora mit dem Blütenfüllhorn" (Flora with the Cornucopia of Blossoms) by Moritz von Schwind, originally located in the former orangery of the Rüdigsdorf manor estate. The signed and dated painting is distinguished by its high-quality technological execution and represents an object of significant cultural and art historical value. Currently, the mural is decontextualized and stored in the basement depot of the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments in Saxony, where it suffered considerable damage as a result of the 2002 flood. The aim of this work is the long-term preservation of the mural fragment and the development of a coherent presentation strategy to enable a future exhibition or potential reintegration into its original architectural context. To this end, a technological examination, an assessment of the current condition, and the development and implementation of a conservation and restoration concept were carried out. Additionally, a preventive conservation plan was devised to accompany future transport and exhibition scenarios. As a result, harmful building-related salts were reduced, and structural stabilization and consolidation measures were applied. Minimal restorative interventions also led to a visual clarification of the painting and a homogenization of its overall appearance. Furthermore, on-site investigations at the original location of the mural contributed to its temporal and contextual art historical classification. |
