Melanie Amann: Materials for temporary facings of mosaic surfaces made of stone and terracotta Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: In this bachelor thesis, binders and fabrics are tested for their suitability for facings for mosaics
made of stone and terracotta tesserae. The focus is on ancient Roman floors. Based on
research into materials used historically and today, a representative selection is made for
detailed testing. They are tested and compared in several tests for strength, reversibility, userfriendliness
and resource-effectiveness. A structured table is compiled from this. None of the
materials tested can fulfill all requirements to the fullest satisfaction. The table therefore serves
as an aid for selecting facing materials that best suit the requirements of a specific object.
