Abstract: This diploma thesis deals with the art historical and art technical classification as well as the conservation and restoration measures for a lined portrait of Princess Maria Kunigunde of Saxony, probably dated to the second half of the 18th century.
In the context of the assesment considering the historical background, parallels and differences to a series of copies to which the painting belongs are pointed out.
In addition, in regards to the intended presentation of the painting, the climatic situation at the place of presentation is evaluated.
The focus of the measures is the de-lining process and the consolidation of the damaged grounding layer as the priority need for conservation. The concept development and implementation of the measures on the basis of numerous examinations and test series form the main aspect of this thesis.
