| Zusammenfassung: | The bachelor thesis focuses on a polychrome crucifix from St. George’s Church in Eitzendorf, Lower Saxony. The aim was to carry out a comprehensive art-historical and technological examination of the object, as well as to develop and implement a conservation concept. Initially, an art-historical classification was conducted based on iconographic and stylistic features, which placed the crucifix stylistically in the 15th century, although influences from the 17th century are also apparent. The technological investigation revealed a complex layer structure with several phases of reworking on the figure of Christ, the cross, and the INRI plaque. Damages such as cracks, paint losses, and rust on the plaque were documented. Based on these findings, a consolidation concept using Benecel A4C in two concentrations was developed and applied to secure both the fragile paint layer on the Christ figure and the flaking paint on the cross. Cleaning was carried out dry, using a brush and vacuum cleaner. Finally, recommendations were made regarding future display and further measures have been addressed. This work thus provides a solid foundation for the long-term preservation and further study of the crucifix. |
