| Zusammenfassung: | ABSTRACT This thesis deals with a phenomenon of damage to written material known from restoration practice. It can be characterised by strong browning and brittleness of the paper, combined with white/grey, dense, lappish layers. This is presumably dry rot, although the extent to which this diagnosis is documented and plausible remains an open question. Using original examples from the Saxon State Archives in Leipzig, such an infestation is examined microbiologically and the condition of the papers is recorded and analysed. In addition, the basidiomycetes, to which dry rot belongs, are analysed as known building pests and paper as a substrate for microorganisms. On the basis of microscopic examinations, colonisation by a fungus from the Basidiomycota division was detected. An exact species identification is not possible due to the age of the mycelia found. |
