Zusammenfassung: This master´s thesis develops a practice-oriented concept for the aesthetic and conservation treatment of color migration damage to “Probedruck 3,” a silkscreen print by Franz Erhard Walther, which is part of a graphic collection on permanent the Koppelschleuse Youth and Cultural Center in Meppen. The focus lies on the application of restoration ethics and their specific relevance for this artwork, as well as the possibilities and limitations of conservation measures. The thesis examines the values attributed to the print and how the needs of stakeholders— including artists, restorers, and owners—can be considered. Based on a comprehensive analysis of materiality, damage pattern, and artistic intent, supplemented by art-historical classification and object history, the thesis identifies key conservation features. A stepwise, tailor-made retouching concept is developed, with various techniques evaluated regarding processing, effect, reversibility, and aging in practical tests. Going beyond a descriptive approach, the thesis presents practical proposals for retouching that aim to restore the artwork’s aesthetic legibility while preserving integrity. The result provides a sound decision-making basis for conservation measures and reintegration into the exhibition and can serve as a reference for similar challenges in contemporary art restoration.
